Thyroid Masses

If your symptoms are minor and there are no complications, the treatment for thyroid masses may be no treatment at all. However, other cases will require medical interventions. Thyroid hormone therapy may be needed if your thyroid isn’t producing enough hormone. If your growth is making it hard for you to breathe, speak, or eat, surgery may be needed to remove the mass.

There are many potential causes of thyroid masses, including:

• Iodine deficiency
• Thyroid cysts
• Thyroid cancer
• Chronic thyroid inflammation
• Hashimoto’s disease

While some cases of thyroid masses will not call for treatment, you still need to get checked by a medical professional to watch for things like thyroid cancer. In other cases, leaving your masses untreated could lead to severe symptoms, including reduced blood flow, breathing problems, and mental effects.
